Dental Assisting
DENTAL CHAIRSIDE ASSISTANT (DAYS)
The chairside dental assistant works directly with the dentist as he or she performs clinical procedures on patients. The duties are varied and include taking X-Rays, impressions, charting and maintaining office sterilization. Our program also trains students in a variety of expanded functions and lab duties. Chairside dental assistants are always in demand as each dental office employs a minimum of one assistant per dentist. In Connecticut, Dental Assistants are required to be certified in Radiation Health & Safety in order to take X-rays. This program prepares students to take and pass this certification exam. Dental assisting students are also eligible to take an optional certification exam in Infection Control. Students will receive 300 hours of experience in dental offices as part of their training. We also have a licensed dental employment agency on site which greatly enhances the job opportunities for our dental assisting graduates. The maximum number of students in a lecture class is 14. The maximum number of students in a lab class is 14. Classes meet 4 days a week. Due to limited enrollment, students are strongly encouraged to apply early to ensure a seat in class and avoid being on a waiting list. Classes begin each January, May and September.
